About mate in 5+ puzzles

Mate-in-five puzzles are a serious calculation exercise. At this depth you cannot brute-force every branch, so you learn to work backwards instead: picture the final mating position, then ask what has to be true two moves earlier for it to happen. That backward-reasoning habit is how strong players find long forced sequences quickly. Expect these to take several minutes each, and expect to be wrong sometimes — that is the point. Solve them by visualisation rather than by moving pieces and you will notice your board sight improving in your own games within weeks.

How to train mate in 5+

Forced mates reward exhaustive checking. Look at every check first, even the ones that look absurd — a mating net usually starts with a move that gives up material or puts a piece where it can be captured.
