Double check is the most forcing move in chess — when two pieces simultaneously give check to the king, the only legal response is to move the king. No piece can be interposed and no checker can be captured. Double check most commonly involves a discovered check where the moving piece also gives check. These positions create spectacular tactics: even a pawn or knight can deliver an unstoppable mating attack via double check.
