Chess Analysis Board
A free online chess analysis board with engine evaluation. Play through moves, take them back, try alternative lines and see which side stands better and why. Works in the browser with no account, no download and no limits.
What the analysis board does
- Evaluates any position and shows the engine's preferred move.
- Lets you play moves for both sides and rewind at any point.
- Accepts a position from the board editor so you can analyse a specific setup.
- Runs entirely in your browser — your games are not uploaded anywhere.
How to analyse your own game properly
- Play through the game once without the engine and write down where you think you went wrong. Guessing first is what builds judgement.
- Turn the engine on and find the moments where the evaluation swung sharply. Those are the real mistakes, not the small inaccuracies.
- For each swing, work out why the move lost — a hanging piece, a missed tactic, a bad plan. Naming the cause is what stops it repeating.
- Replay the correct idea a few times so the pattern sticks.
An engine tells you what the best move was; it does not tell you why you missed it. That second question is the one that improves you, and it is the one a coach helps with.
Frequently asked questions
Is the analysis board free?
Yes — free, unlimited, and no login required.
Is it suitable for children?
Yes. Younger players get most benefit when an adult or coach helps interpret the evaluation rather than just reading the numbers.
Can I analyse a position from a book or a puzzle?
Yes — build it on the board editor and send it across.
