About overloading puzzles
An overloaded piece is one asked to do two jobs at once — guarding a mating square while also defending a piece, for example. The tactic is to attack one of those duties so the other collapses. Overloading is subtle because nothing looks loose at first glance; you find it by counting defensive responsibilities rather than material. These puzzles train that counting habit, which is one of the clearest markers of a player who has moved past spotting only forks and pins. It appears constantly in real games precisely because defenders are so often stretched.
How to train overloading
A overloading is a shape, not a sequence. Once you can spot the shape you will find the move in seconds instead of calculating from scratch, so train for recognition speed: glance, name the pattern, then verify.
