About piece trapping puzzles

Trapping tactics catch a piece that has too few safe squares — a knight that wandered to the rim, a bishop that took a poisoned pawn, a queen that grabbed material and cannot get home. The skill is counting escape squares rather than looking for checks, which is a different mode of thinking from most tactics practice. These puzzles are especially useful for developing players because greedy piece grabs are common at every club level, and knowing how to punish them turns your opponent's impatience into your material advantage.

How to train piece trapping

A piece trapping is a shape, not a sequence. Once you can spot the shape you will find the move in seconds instead of calculating from scratch, so train for recognition speed: glance, name the pattern, then verify.
