About knight endgame puzzles

Knight endgames are notoriously tricky because knights move differently from all other pieces, making their range feel counter-intuitive compared to bishops and rooks. These puzzles cover key ideas: using knight outposts, coordinating knight and king, blocking passed pawns, and the classic patterns where a knight can be better or worse than a bishop depending on pawn structure. Knights excel in closed positions with pawns on both sides of the board. Practising knight endgame puzzles builds the spatial thinking required to see many moves ahead with these unique pieces and helps you convert or save positions that seem unclear to less experienced players.

How to train knight endgame

Positions from this phase of the game repeat constantly, so the aim is recognition rather than raw calculation. Work slowly at first and name what you see — which side is better, which piece is loose, what the immediate threat is — before you look for a move.
